Today’s conviction of Paul Manafort proves the Special Counsel’s Russia investigation is not a witch hunt. The American judicial system promises every citizen a trial by jury, the opportunity to present a defense, and the presumption of innocence until guilt is proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Paul Manafort was convicted of five counts of tax fraud, one count of failing to file, and two counts of bank fraud by a jury of his peers, not by a bureaucracy or a conspiracy. Special Counsel Robert Mueller is working to ensure foreign interference, aggression, and corruption do not gain a foothold in the American electoral system. For the safety of our country, the Special Counsel must be allowed to finish his work.
