President Trump just signed an executive order ending the separation of immigrant families at the border. Linda Chavez director and spokeswoman for the Becoming American Initiative released the following statement:
“Ending the inhumane practice of separating immigrant families at the border is long overdue. President Trump’s zero-tolerance immigration policy has been in vast contradiction to ‘give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses.’ Our immigration system is broken, but treating children like criminals is not a proper fix. Congress needs to now step in and make this change permanent by passing appropriate legislation aimed at protecting immigrants who are looking to contribute to American society.”
