Republican Accountability Project: House Impeachment Vote Statement

The Constitution—and its crucial separation of powers—is only as strong as the willingness of our representatives to defend it and enforce it. Today, ten Republicans in the House of Representatives took a brave and important step to defend the Constitution against a president of their own party. Along with the Democratic majority, they impeached President Trump. That was the right and proper thing to do.

The Senate should now move expeditiously to convict.

Those Republicans who voted to excuse the president for inciting a violent insurrection and doing nothing to stop it when it was going on have cast a fateful vote that makes the Republican Party, for now at least, the party of Donald Trump, not of the Constitution. For the sake of our nation, that has to change. We will do our best to see to it that it does.
