Republicans for the Rule of Law Issue Statement on Passage of The Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act

Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee passed the bipartisan Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act. Republicans for the Rule of Law Director Sarah Longwell issued the following statement:

The passage of the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act is an important step toward protecting the probity of Robert Mueller’s investigation. To uphold the rule of law, it is crucial the special counsel continue his work free from political interference. We commend the Judiciary Committee, under the leadership of Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA), for reporting out this bipartisan legislation with the support of four Republican senators. We urge Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to act promptly to bring the legislation to the Senate floor. The Senate should have no higher priority than upholding and strengthening the rule of law.

Republicans for the Rule of Law — a new campaign directed by William Kristol, Mona Charen, Linda Chavez, Sarah Longwell, and a broad coalition of Republicans and conservatives — is committed to supporting the integrity of Robert Mueller’s investigation. In anticipation of today’s vote, we aired this commercial on Fox News in Iowa, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Kentucky.
