Republicans for the Rule of Law issues statement on Special Counsel Integrity Act

Republicans for the Rule of Law — a new campaign directed by William Kristol, Mona Charen, Linda Chavez, Sarah Longwell, and a broad coalition of Republicans and conservatives — is committed to supporting the integrity of Robert Mueller’s investigation.

In anticipation of a Senate Judiciary Committee vote on the Special Counsel Integrity Act next week, Director Saral Longwell issued the following statement:

Republicans for the Rule of Law is heartened by reports that Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) agreed to hold a committee vote on The Special Counsel Integrity Act. This bipartisan legislation ensures “the Special Counsel can only be fired for good cause by a senior Justice Department official, and the reason must be provided in writing.” Special counsel Robert Mueller must be allowed to conduct his investigation unobstructed by the specter of unjust termination, and with the independence required to serve impartial justice — the integrity of our nation’s democratic norms, values, and institutions depends on it. The time for all members of Congress to step up and defend the rule of law is now.

Republicans for the Rule of Law represents the majority of Republicans who believe the Special Counsel’s investigation should be completed without political interference. The campaign kicked off this morning with this commercial on Fox and Friends and Morning Joe in Washington, D.C. and has received coverage inNew York Daily NewsThe Washington Post, and The Hill.
